Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington has been a Greek American columnist, author and businesswoman for over 20 years. She is a founder of The Huffington Post and the chief executive officer of Thrive Global. Author of over 15 books. Arianna Huffington is an author and philanthropist as well as a television host and the owner of the independent liberal online news magazine The Huffington Post. Born in Greece and moved to England at the age of 16. At Cambridge University, she graduated with an MA of Economics. As the first foreign student to hold the position of president of the highly regarded debate club The Cambridge Union, at 21 years old she took on the role. Her popularity as a columnist of the conservative side was confirmed after she finished her degree. After the launch of The Huffington Post a few months later, she launched an online voice-portal that provided critical opinions on the politics. The fame of Arianna helped in attracting several famous contributors. Arianna's popularity started in 2003, after she declared herself an independent candidate in the California recall election to succeed then-Governor Davis. She also headed the Detroit automobile project that was fuel efficient. Forbes listed her as the top female in the media industry in the year 2009. She ranked at 12th place on their list. The Guardian also included her to the list of top 100 media for 2009. AOL purchased The Huffington Post from AOL in 2011. She was then made the President of AOL's media group. The group included several AOL-owned brands, including Engadget AOL Style List and Patch Media. The parents of her were Elli as well as Konstantinos Stasinopoulos. They were a management consultant and journalist. Though she was close with her father, it was the relationship she shared with her mother which shaped her entire life. Even in her formative age she showed the qualities of a leader for which she's still known. When she was in her 16th year she returned to the UK for a degree and attended Girton College Cambridge. In her time at college, she was a member of the college debate Society Cambridge Union where she became the first foreign president and was also the third female president. In 1972, she earned an MA in Economics. She became a writer, a critic as well as a host on TV as well as a columnist following her graduation. She was a guest on Bernard Levin on an edition Face the music, and she began to write her own books with his help.
