Arianna Huffington
Arianna Stassinopoulos Huffington has been an Greek American columnist, author and entrepreneur for more than twenty years. She's co-founder and CEO of Thrive Global, as well being the author of 15 books. Arianna Huffington is a journalist and television host, as well as philanthropist as well as the owner and editor of The Huffington Post. Originally from Greece she was able to move to England at the age of 16 and was able to graduate from Cambridge University with an MA in Economics. The first non-English student to graduate, she was elected president of The Cambridge Union' at age 21. In the years following after her college graduation, she was an influential right-wing syndicated reporter. A few more years later, she founded The Huffington Post which featured critiques of the current political scene. Arianna was able to attract many prominent contributors to share their thoughts about politics and culture. Arianna gained fame after she made the decision in 2003 to run as an Independent candidate for the California Recall election to succeed the Governor Davis. Apart from this she also directed a Detroit project that promoted the use of fuel-efficient cars. In 2009 she was named by Forbes as the most influential female media personality, taking the 12th position in the list and in the same year the Guardian listed her on the top 100 of media lists. AOL purchased The Huffington Post from AOL in 2011. She was then made the president of AOL's media group. The group included several AOL-owned brands, including Engadget AOL Style List and Patch Media. She was born to a journalist and manager Konstantinos as well as his spouse Elli Stasinopoulos. Although she was a close friend to her father it was her bond with her mother which shaped her entire life. In her early years she showed her leadership skills and is a household name. At 16 years of age she relocated to the United Kingdom to pursue her studies and enrolled in Girton College Cambridge. While in college she was a member of the Cambridge Union's college debating societies which she later became the first female and foreign president. She graduated in 1972 with a master's degree in Economics. Following her degree she worked as a journalist-critic and TV host. Also, she appeared on the show Face the music along with Bernard Levin and began writing books taking editorial help from him.
